Jussi Vänttinen is a Finnish baritone and the winner of the 2019 Lappeenranta National Singing Competition. His performances in both opera and concert venues have earned a lot of praise for his intensity and physicality and his ability to be in contact with the audience.
Jussi made his debut at the Finnish National Opera in September 2019 in the role of Moralés (G.Bizet: Carmen).
In September 2021 he made his debut as a soloist of Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Igor Stravinsky´s chamber opera Renard.
Mr. Vänttinen received his MMus at the University College of Opera in Stockholm and at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
Over the past few years, Jussi has performed for example the roles of Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, the title role of Don Giovanni, Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia, Starveling in A Midsummer Night´s Dream, Ping in Turandot, Jussi in The Ostrobothnians.
Jussi Vänttinen has performed as a soloist with Oulu Symphony Orchestra, Lohja City Orchestra, Mikkeli City Orchestra, Lappeenranta City Orchestra, Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, Pori Sinfonietta and Saimaa Sinfonietta. He is also active as a lied singer. His current lied repertoire includes for example Schubert´s Schwanengesang song cycle, Brahms´s Vier ernste Gesänge, Schumann´s Dichterliebe and Liederkreis Op. 24, Duparc´s songs and Ravel´s Don Quichotte á Dulcinée song cycle. His sacred music repertoire includes Christmas Oratorio, St John Passion and St Matthew Passion by J.S.Bach, Ein deutsches Requeim by Brahms, Requiem by G.Faure and The Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini.
He is also a well-liked contemporary music performer. In December 2019 he participated in the premiere of Paavo Korpijaakko's The Trial and Uljas Pulkkis' opera I väntan på en jordbävning. In April 2020, he sang in Kari Tikka's opera Love is Powerful as Death, and in June 2021 in the title role of Sebastian Fagerlund's opera Döbeln.
In the 2024-2025 season, Jussi will sing the main role of the opera Pohjalaisia, as well as the male lead of the operetta The Merry Widow at the Finnish National Opera.
